I want to paint you

november is calling
I trace your ink-infused skin
with my wanting fingertips
and I remember the better
days. You were younger
once and I was sweeter
once, and we shared a
prison cell called love.
You are no longer baby-
faced and I have hair down
to my waist, and you smoke
cigarettes and you drink
whiskey because you want to
be a man’s man. You kiss me
sweetly for the fifth year
in a row, even though I
haven’t known what it’s like
to call you mine in four.
I can’t detach myself from
your wanting gaze, the way
you look at me when I shed
my skin. I can’t let go of your

Sonnet XXII
But give me leave to love in silence that
which I cannot possess— and give me such
inspired defiance of the urges at
my breast— and give me strength to never touch
my lips to hers, my soul to her soul— give

that may unfold: But tell me how to live

and tell me how to wake each morn if not
to wake within her arms— and tell me how
I am to carry on, and how I ought
to act and speak and be, around her, now,

as still and quiet as the passing day.

I will write about the way
your eyes crinkle in the corners
and the way your dimples are uneven
when you laugh
I will write about the
tiny vampire footprints
you leave on my skin at night
when we're sat outside

contemplating Aristotle and Cobain
Like bleary eyed philosophers
I will write about the way
your fingers flex when you're exc

Upon reading this poem, I'd say you are naturally gifted in the ways of verse. Mind you, people who have natural talent usually get lost in the crowd of all the poets that want to get published out there. You need to find a way to rise above all of those other people and soar higher.
While this piece is amazing, it has some elements that are seen in a lot of poems. Love being a tattoo that is etched into skin. The way you did it though, was SUPURB, but reach deeper inside yourself and write exactly what you are feeling. The best poems ever made are the ones that are covered in emotion. Never be afraid to write about your pain, pleasure or failures.
I like the format you have chosen, but I feel this poem can be a lot longer. Maybe if you were to stretch this piece to a nice couple more stanza's the originality and technique elements would disappear, but despite it all, this reads nicely. The line" I want to paint you with colors" is a strong statement and where you put it and how you put it makes those words the strongest in your piece.
I hope I have been helpful
